First,
let me start by saying that it is great
to be back at St. George’s! This
church has been my home church since
when I began attending as an 8th
grader, nearly 13 years ago, and
it is a place of many fond memories
including youth group mission trips,
confirmation classes, acolyting on
Sunday mornings, spaghetti suppers, and
Uncle Phil’s Diner. (You might
remember me as the lippy waitress,
Flodene.)
St.
George’s is also the place where I
married my husband and best friend,
Phil, also an Episcopal cleric and
assistant rector here (full-time).
(If you ask, I’ll tell you the story of
how we met—something about a
psychological evaluation center…)
After
going away to college at Vanderbilt
University in Nashville, Tennessee,
where I majored in Spanish, I traveled
to Austin, Texas where I graduated from
the Episcopal Theological Seminary of
the Southwest with my Master of Divinity
degree and was ordained a priest.
I now return to St. George’s as an
assistant rector (part-time).
I am
excited about the opportunity this will
give me to work with the many families
and children that are a part of St.
George’s community, and to introduce my
own family to the life and ministry
here.
As a
mother of two boys under 2 years of age,
Liam (20 mo.) and Phillip (3 mo.), I am
a busy woman, and seemingly constantly
on the go. However, I am never too
busy to make time for good food and a
good movie with my husband.
Being a
youth of St. George’s is where I was
first bitten by the traveling bug (I was
a member of the first youth group
contingent to Russia in 1999) and I have
been a fan of international travel ever
since.
I am a
fluent Spanish speaker who lived in
Spain while in college and has traveled
in Guatemala and Mexico. Before
moving back to Ohio from seminary I
served as a deacon at a Latino mission
church,
Iglesia Episcopal San Francisco de Asis,
in the Diocese of Texas. In truth,
Spanish is my passion and it is why I
got involved in church ministry. I
am hoping to be able to use my language
skills for ministry here at St. George’s
and encourage like-minded folks to get
in touch with me for a charla
o una oportunidad para disfrutar de la
comida buena aqui en la ciudad.
(Anyone know where I can find some good
pupusas?)
I also
love music of all kinds—don’t be
surprised if you hear an eclectic mix of
music drifting out of the office from
time to time—or my voice singing along
to it.
All and
all I am so excited to be back in Dayton
and back at St. George’s and am looking
forward to getting to know all of you
(again!) and being able to give back to
the community that has meant so much to
me and has supported me throughout my
formation and ordination.
God
bless!
