The
Social Issues Committee examines the needs and concerns of
those in the greater community and
the world beyond our congregation
and coordinates outreach
ministries. The committee makes
recommendations to the
Vestry regarding
outreach grants and sponsors the
annual Spaghetti Supper and Rummage
Sale which
benefit outreach projects. Social
Issues sponsors St. George's
participation in Blanket
Sunday, and community food
collections.
The activities of our Social
Issues Commission raises the
members’ awareness of community,
regional, and worldwide needs
and issues. Some of the
organizations funded by St.
Geroge's include:
Alcoholics Anonymous
St. George’s opens its
facilities for
Alcoholics Anonymous every
Friday evening at 7:00 and 8:30 p.m. The primary
purpose of AA is to stay sober and
help other alcoholics to achieve
sobriety.
Artemis South Center
We provide funding for Dayton’s
shelter for battered women,
Artemis Center
Blanket
Sunday
is one way St.
George's partners with Church World
Service. The
Tools of
Hope & Blanket Program
provides the right tools at the
right time and makes a world of
difference in the lives of people
in need. Blankets, tents,
bedding, and other emergency
supplies in the wake of natural
disasters and human calamities are
very real tools of hope.
The Castle
The Castle is a Centerville
based daycare center which
offers activities and social
opportunities for the mentally
disabled or challenged people
Daybreak
We support
Dayton’s Daybreak ministry
which offers shelter and food
for runaway children, older
teenagers, and young adults.
Episcopal Relief and Development
Fund
We
offer financial support to The
Episcopal
Relief and Development Fund which is the
collective response of
Episcopalians to help people in
need. Through grants for
emergency relief, rehabilitation
and development
ERD
responds to people in need in the
U.S. and around the world.

Heifer Project
From members’ donations we
support
the Heifer Project
established to provide animals
which produce both food and
income for families in Third
World countries. Example:
Chickens, cows, goats, and pigs,
all furnish more than one useful
item.
House of Bread
We give financial support and
our labor for
The House of Bread, a
program to feed the homeless.
House of the People
St. George’s gives money to the
Dayton home for Rwandan
refugees.
Kairos Prison Ministry
Kairos is a ministry which
seeks to provide to women
prisoners a spiritual awakening
while they are incarcerated and
after they are released from
prison.
Salvation Army
St. George’s cooks and serves
food
the second Wednesday through a
program for the homeless
administered by the
Salvation
Army.
Summer Lunch Programs
We contribute volunteers for the
Summer Lunch Programs in various
Dayton Public Schools to serve
food for low income children and
senior citizens.
